LEF is the story of a woman, a flâneuse. On her long walks, she discovers a place. She moves through it, maps it with her senses, and rewrites it, always with an attitude of slowness. Her self-talk poeticizes reality and celebrates the simplicity of being present: listening and lingering. This place is inhabited by an unknown being, Berg. Curious and open, Lef awakens Berg through a rite that involves singing and dancing. Together they dream and speak about their lives, exchanging knowledge, memories, and experiences, and in doing so open up a parallel universe, a place of possibilities. As they grow closer, Berg shares its knowledge with Lef. This exchange between them forms the central narrative of the piece.
LEF engages with the aesthetics of walking to question the structures of public space while simultaneously generating its own speculative world. We asked ourselves what a fictional public space might look like, one where we can project our wishes for a future way of being together.
