Sol Bilbao Lucuix (*1981, Spain)
Sol is a dancer, performer, choreographer and teacher based in Basel. She studied ballet, contemporary dance and choreography in Cádiz and Madrid. She holds an MA in Expanded Theatre from the Bern University of the Arts (HKB). Active professionally since 2003, she performed with various companies across Europe and was a soloist with Ballett Theater Basel between 2008 and 2017. She has created various dance performances in Switzerland and abroad since 2007.
Throughout her career she has collaborated with choreographers including Jiří Kylián, Ohad Naharin, Blanca Li, Mats Ek, Imbal Pinto, Richard Wherlock, Angelin Preljocaj, Alexander Ekman, Stijn Celis, Sharon Fridman, Nacho Duato and Johan Inger, among others. Her choreographic work has been shown at venues and institutions such as Museum der Kulturen Basel, Theater Roxy Birsfelden, Theater Basel, Neuestheater Dornach, Residenztheater Munich, Stadttheater Münster, Interdans Festival (Belgium), Burgos–New York International Festival, Landesmuseum Zürich and Neubad Luzern.
Sol has led seminars at Swiss art institutions including FHNW and HSLU. Together with her long-time collaborator Fabrizio Di Salvo, she founded Cie ever.body in 2023, a platform that aims to create opportunities for professional dancers aged 40+ to continue performing on stage. She currently collaborates with the Pro UKBB Foundation for the dance education project UKBB Tanzt. She serves as Head of Dance at the Swiss Academy Group, an international high-school for young talents in Zürich and Basel. Sol teaches ballet, contemporary dance and improvisation at different places in Basel.
